Penang Hill 110910

Went for a recce at Penang Hill last weekend. Here are some shots taken there..

Careful with this fella whenever you hike up Penang Hill. They are quite commonly seen there. If you see one move away and never try to handle or kill it.

Malaysian Blue Coral Snake, Calliophis bivirgata flaviceps..

Hosemys spinosa, Spiny Hill Turtle.

Thanks.

I think your photo actually shows a Red Headed Krait (Bungarus flaviceps). Found also in Sabah.

Came across a fully grown Red Headed Krait during a jungle walk on Tioman Island, Malaysia. Feb 2010. Only about 50 metres from the hotel golf course. It just lay there stretched out in the shade and speckled sun, until the guide thumped the ground to make it move so we could pass after photographing it.

Beautiful and extremely rare. Guide said he had never seen one before in 14 years of doing the jungle trek.

I saw a big one of these a few weeks ago on one of the trails up to tea station five from the Youth Park in Penang. And then again today one of dogs ran over the top of a much smaller one.
